Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can affect every aspect of your life — from your ability to work and stay active to your sleep, mood, and overall well-being. When pain persists for months or even years, it often requires a comprehensive and personalized treatment approach focused on improving function and restoring quality of life.

At Alpenglow Pain & Wellness in Anchorage, Alaska, Nichelle C. Renk, MD, who is board-certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain management, and Gavin Nixon, DO, who is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, provide compassionate, evidence-based care for patients living with chronic pain conditions. Our team takes time to understand the underlying causes of your pain and develops a customized treatment plan designed to help you regain control of your health and daily activities.

What Is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than three months and may continue even after an injury or illness has healed. It can affect the muscles, joints, nerves, spine, and other areas of the body, and may range from mild discomfort to severe, debilitating pain.

Chronic pain conditions can be caused by injury, inflammation, nerve damage, degenerative conditions, autoimmune disorders, or unknown causes.

Conditions Associated with Chronic Pain

We diagnose and treat a wide range of chronic pain conditions, including:

  • Chronic neck and back pain
  • Arthritis and joint pain

What Is CRPS?

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain condition that most often develops after an injury, surgery, or trauma. CRPS typically affects an arm, leg, hand, or foot and may cause severe burning pain, swelling, skin sensitivity, temperature changes, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

Early diagnosis and treatment are important to help reduce symptoms and improve long-term outcomes. At Alpenglow Pain & Wellness, we offer comprehensive treatment strategies for CRPS focused on reducing nerve irritation, improving function, and helping patients regain independence.
